Protect Your WiFi Network
Well we have all noticed few WiFi Networks getting Hacked , and we also have guesses some of our neighbor's passwords and messed up :P
Well today i am showing you how to be secure at these circumstances.
Change The Admin Password
The default password for most wireless kits is ADMIN or something else set by manufacturers. If you haven’t changed this password then change it as soon as you can. It is surprising the amount of wireless networks that are hacked into or accessed by a third party because the ADMIN password is still ADMIN. All manufacturers manuals can be downloaded from the Internet with their admin password easily.
Enable MAC Address filtering
Each wireless device has a unique identifier called the physical address or MAC address.
Access points and routers keep track of the MAC addresses for all devices that connect to them.Wireless routers offer the option to key in the MAC addresses of your home equipment to restrict the network to only allow connections from those devices.It ensures that rogue users cannot connect to the wireless router without using advanced MAC spoofing techniques.
Turn on encryption
All wireless devices support some form of encryption. Encryption technology scrambles messages sent over the air and ensures that they cannot be intercepted by hackers. Several encryption technologies exist for wireless communication today.
WPA is the strongest commonly available encryption technology for home devices. While WEP can also be used cracking WEP is just a matter of few minutes.
We would advice corporates to go for WPA with EAP Authentication, TKIP/RC4 Encryption or WPA 2 with EAP Authentication, AES-CCMP encryption for better security.
Change the default SSID
Access points and routers all use a network name called the SSID. Manufacturers normally ship their products with the same SSID set for all routers.
For example, the SSID for Netgear devices is normally ‘NETGEAR’. The default SSID can be changed from the administrative panel and should be set to something unique.
Disable remote login
The first router worm brute forces its way into the router in this way. Most default usernames are set to Admin. It isn’t hard for a virus/worm to crack the password if the username is known. The good thing is that routers normally have this disabled by default. Be sure to confirm that it is disabled when you first set up your router and periodically then. If you need to update your router setting remotely, only set up access for the time you are going to be connected.
Do not auto-connect to open wireless networks
Connecting to an open wireless network like a free wireless hotspot or your neighbour’s router exposes your computer to security risks and attacks.
Although not normally enabled, most computers have a setting available allowing these connections to happen automatically without notifying the user. This setting 't enabled except in temporary situations.
Turn off network during extended periods of non-use
Turn off network while not in use. When you do not need the internet, turn off your router. While it is impractical to turn off and on the devices often, at least consider doing so during travel or extended periods of downtime.
Position the router or access point safely
Wireless signals normally reach to the exterior of a home. A small amount of signal leakage outdoors is not a problem, but the further this signal reaches, the easier it is for others to detect and exploit.
Wireless signals often reach through neighbouring houses and into streets.hen installing a wireless home network, the position of the access point or router determines its reach.
Try to place these devices near the centre of the home than near windows to decrease leakage.Many routers allow you to cut the range of your router from the administrative panel to prevent the signal leakage.

Easily Create/Setup A Virtual Private Network[VPN] in Moments
Virtual Private Networks, or VPN for short, allow employees to securely connect their desktop or laptop computers to the office network from any location in the world using a regular Internet connection.If you are working from home, you can connect to the corporate network over VPN and you’ll have immediate access to your emails, internal web pages, network drives, and stuff that is otherwise only available from computers within the office premises. Some VPN clients also allow screen sharing and remote access to facilitate communication among team members.
Create a Virtual Private Network for Free
If you regular need to connect to your home computer(s) from the office or if you have a group of friends and family members with whom you share files quite frequently, you can consider setting up a virtual private network between all these computers.
While businesses generally invest in VPN solutions for companies like Cisco, we can create own VPN for free using Gbridge – this is a software only solution that is available for all versions of Windows and the best part is that it uses your Google Account for authentication.
Once you install this application*, simply sign in with your Gmail or Google Apps account. Then enter a hostname for your computer; this is what your computer will show up as to other computers that will connect to the VPN. Your hostname must be 8 characters long or less and include only letters, numbers, and/or dashes.
[*] If you are using a DNS service like OpenDNS that does automatic typo correction, you may see a notification saying that it is interfering with Gbridge. You can either add an exception for Gbridge, or simply let Gbridge automatically raise its virtual adapter’s binding order to override this.Share Files and Folders
You’ll now see a list of all your Google Talk friends listed in the Gbridge window, as well as a list of folders that you are current sharing. You can share files as well as chat with your friends directly in Gbridge. They do not have to install Gbridge to chat with you, but will need the software to access your shared files from their computer.
Gbridge has a sample folder shared by default, but can easily add others from the SecureShare tab. Simply select a folder and choose friends with whom you wish to share that folder with. They’ll now will be able to browse the contents of that shared folder as well download files using a web browser.
Remotely Access another Computer
In addition to file sharing, Gbridge also let you to remotely access your other computers (or that of your friends) over VPN. You can do this via the built-in VNC client (called DesktopShare) or through Windows Remote Desktop. The latter option is only available if you are on XP Pro, Vista Business or Windows 7 Professional.
Simply select the DesktopShare option on the computer that you wish to control, click “Configure Gbridge DesktopShare,” select who should access that computer and add a password. These people can now remotely access and control the computer.
Alternatively, create a common Google account and use it on both the computers – you can then remotely control the other computer without DesktopShare.
With GBridge, you can sync selected folders that you always have the same file on all your computer. This option may also be used to backup files on a remote computer.
Limitations of your VPN Setup
Gbridge requires Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 but there’s no support for Mac or Linux machines. The application uses unsigned drivers, and while this will only prompt a security dialog in 32 bit versions of Windows, it won’t install in 64 bit editions since these require signed drivers.
Gbridge is otherwise a brilliant solution. You can stream MP3 files, show photos and video without uploading them anywhere, remotely fix a problem on your friend’s computer, access your home files from office or even unblock restricted sites. All this using your Google account.

Share internet connection in windows 7 with built in WiFi
Hey, do you want to share your internet connection with colleagues or friends without wireless router, lan wire etc ? Then here is the perfect solution for windows 7 users. Because windows 7′s ICS technology is better than any OS in the market. You can easily turn your wifi enabled laptop/pc into professional wireless router. Do you think I’m joking :-p ? Well, the process is tested and it’s working 100%. Just follow up the process mentioned below :
1. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center 2. Under Change your networking settings, click Set up a new connection or network
3. Select Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network
4. Enter your Network name, and enter a Security key if wanted
5. Check the box for Save this network and click Turn on Internet connection sharing on next pageYour internet connection is now ready for sharing. Tell your friends to connect with your wifi network via their wifi. It’ll work 100% if you didn’t mess around with your internet connections before. Sometimes, your friends can be able to connect your wifi but only local connection without internet access. It’s because you didn’t turn on the internet sharing function mentioned in point 5. For some technical reasons the internet sharing activating window doesn’t appear for the first time. If this happens follow the instruction given below (don’t do it unless you face such problem):
1) Open Network and Sharing Center
2) Go to Change Adapter Settings
3) Find the adapter for the default internet connection (it was a PPPOE in my case)
4) Right click on that -> Cancel as Default Connection
5) Right click -> Properties -> Sharing tab
6) Uncheck "Allow other network users to connect ..." if it is not
7) Setup the ad-hoc as cocaine explained in the previous post, the Turn on Internet connection sharing should appearOh, I almost forgot to tell that Internet Sharing won’t work unless you’ve a wifi enabled laptop. PCs don’t have any built in wifi. But don’t worry, you can buy a portable wifi for PC from your nearest shop.
